The United States serves as an example for many countries due to its well-developed and coordinated power branches. Thus, Congress, including the Senate and the House of Representatives, which represent the legislative branch, plays an important role in the American political system.
Congress is a vital part of the U.S. government. One of its priorities includes the enactment of laws that impact the daily lives of American citizens (About Congress). This institution facilitates the funding of government programs, coordinates the legislative process, and controls the executive branch (About Congress). Thus, Congress plays the role of the voice of the people in the U.S.
The House and the Senate have different functions at specific levels. The composition of the House amounts to 435 members (About Congress; The Legislative Branch). They are elected for a two-year term to represent their states (The Legislative Branch). Since the House has the power to initiate revenue bills, it means that it is responsible for taxation, thus controlling money as one of its functions (The Legislative Branch). Moreover, the House makes decisions on spending public money. Another part of Congress that fulfills other functions is the Senate. As distinct from the House, the Senate can approve the President’s appointments and has advisory functions (The Legislative Branch). Thus, both institutions coordinate their efforts for the proper work of the government.
