The article in New York Times criticizes the current voting system in the US stating that direct elections would give equal weight to all the votes (Bouie, 2019). The concern of the author refers to the circumstances in which it becomes impossible to pass and approve an amendment abolishing the Electoral College.
The shortcoming of this reading is a focus on the other voting system as it has no disadvantages. Direct elections are easily falsified and controlled by policymakers.
The article made me think of the equality of all the states participating in the elections and if the direct elections would be fairer in representing the opinions of the citizens.
