Hispanic Migrants and American Dream: Reflection

Latinos are now not only the most prominent and youngest ethnic group in the United States, but they are also the most dynamic force shaping the future of the United States. Every aspect of American culture, every facet of American society, is now being reshaped by Hispanics. Their culture has become an integral part of U.S. culture. Unfortunately, however, the rights of this ethnicity still have to prove that they are a part of the American dream.

The photo shows Hispanic and Mexican migrants holding a banner with a slogan. They are forced to participate in the protests because these people are not allowed to obtain American citizenship. The U.S. Senate has blocked a bill that would grant residency to children of illegal immigrants who have received a college degree or served in the U.S. military. Opponents of the bill called it amnesty for lawbreakers and felt that it diverted attention from the priority task of stopping the flow of illegal immigrants to the United States. Other opponents of the bill argued that it might provide an incentive for illegal refugees to bring their children to the United States. However, this would be completely unfair to legal immigrants who comply with current U.S. immigration procedures.

The bill’s adoption caused numerous rallies among members of national minorities, which is quite reasonable. In turn, the blocking of the law resumed the process of deportation of young immigrants. Such cruel treatment of such a large population is unacceptable. The slogan on the migrants’ poster in the photo reads: “Let us be part of the American dream.” This dream concept means that everyone can work hard to achieve what they want (Churchwell, 2021). However, as it turns out, in the case of migrants, this statement does not apply.
