Gun Control in America: Necessary Restrictions

Introduction

Gun control is an essential subject specifically in the American culture since it is likely to facilitate the reduction of gun-associated deaths within the country. Gun control is legislation and guidelines established to certify that the United States populace conforms to the utilization and ownership of guns in public (Spitzer, 2020). Gun control laws resolve the upsurge in the number of occurrences of unlawful possessions in the community. Individuals’ overwhelming supply and ownership of prohibited rifles influenced the current irresponsible utilization of firearms against the innocent public. This is opposed to the perceptions of various persons, who believe that an increased proportion of handgun custody boosts community safety and security (Spitzer, 2020). Therefore, this project intends to assess gun control by presenting restrictions that should be implemented to curtail mass shootings, ban semi-automatics, and analyze the importance of undertaking mental evaluations prior to the authorization of gun ownership.

The Impact of Gun Control on the Community

Gun ownership regulation will help minimize deaths due to public mass shootings. Internationally, 6 million persons succumb to gun-associated shooting instances. In the United States, more than 320 million guns are owned by individuals (Burton et al., 2021). The current data on gun possession indicates that an American is 20 times more likely to perish due to gun homicide equated to an average citizen in other developed nations, such as the United Kingdom. Presently, mass murder has surged in the United States, with more than 98 gun killings recorded each day (Burton et al., 2021). For instance, in 2007, the mass killing in Virginia claimed a significant number of individuals in American history (Burton et al., 2021). The unintentional shootings in 2010 resulted in the death of more than 600 persons (Burton et al., 2021). In essence, approximately more than 1400 lives were lost between the 2005 to 2010 mass gun murders (Burton et al., 2021). As a result, there is a prerequisite to creating formidable and functional policies to manage the modification, usage, manufacturing, and ownership of firearms within the community.

Additionally, gun control will certify that the firearm holders are psychologically stable and socially dependable. The regulations of gun possession will guarantee that mentally unstable individuals are denied the privilege to own a rifle. Employing the constant and recurrent psychosomatic and social state of persons possessing guns is essential in certifying that the usage of firearms is in safe influences (Bessant & Lohmeyer, 2021). The mental assessments should be undertaken once every two months at the owner’s expense. This approach will minimize the likelihood of holding a firearm and gun murder incidences due to mental disabilities. The wealthy tycoons are usually regarded as socially viable and thus tend to opt for owning a gun for self-protection. When the safety measures are reinforced and implemented successfully, their security will be definite and hence will not require firearms for protection. Likewise, corruption is another social issue that should be mitigated (Bessant & Lohmeyer, 2021). This will guarantee that every rifle holder that rents it for criminal activities is denied the privilege to own a gun and is charged for endangering the lives of the general community.

Similarly, gun control will regulate the cases of semi-automatic weapons ownership in public, hence lowering gun homicide. Research has confirmed that implementing gun control principles and decrees abridged the number of semi-automatic rifles by 75 percent in Australia (Spitzer, 2020). Fewer firearms in the community will significantly manage the level of mass murders and other gun-centered accidents. The act will reduce the deaths resulting from mass killings against the public by 35 percent (Spitzer, 2020). According to statistics, the increased level of semi-automatic rifle ownership results in an upsurge in mass murders by five times.

The affected parties, in this case, are usually gun owners and the innocent public. Semi-automatic firearms should be banned from public usage since numerous gun shootings linked to such rifles have been attributed to drug abuse and alcohol consumption. The Center for Disease control investigations indicates that drunk individuals have perpetrated 33 percent of gun shootings, and more than 50 percent of the culprits were under drugs (Spitzer, 2020). Policing the number of rifles in drug abusers and alcoholics’ possession will minimize accidents related to compromised judgments. As a result, an intoxicated individual may get involved in public fights, but the altercation will be less violent without guns.

Finally, gun control will present strict guidelines to manage the possession and usage of firearms in learning institutions. Regulations that restrict students from accessing rifles are essential in gun management. Gun custody should be sternly controlled, centering on societal stratification and age (Hamzehee, 2021). For instance, learners should not be allocated time to own firearms. The appropriate age for gun possession should further be revamped to 21 years, divergent from the current 18 years (Hamzehee, 2021). The young individuals are usually irrational in gun usage and are quick to action. Since the young generation does not comprehend the implications of excessive gun usage, they should not be allowed to access firearms.

Conclusion

Firearm policing is the definitive solution to the increasing development of gun-associated killings in American communities. Regulations and standardization that control manufacturing, supply, retail, ownership, and usage are advisable. Managing gun use in the United States does not invade the general public privilege of self-protection. The regulatory guidelines should certify equivalent applicability. Furthermore, it should ensure that all the gaps that can hinder its efficiency in minimizing associated gun murders are sealed. Therefore, the overall community will be more secure with the management measures than when the persons in the community are self-armed.
