Voting and Political Parties

Voting is an essential element of every society as far it helps developing democracy and human freedoms in it. In the United States of America, voting is an integral part of social life. Almost every citizen registers with a particular political party, either the Republican or a Democratic one, to support its ideas and vote for it at the election. Both parties have their platforms reflecting their views on various domestic and international issues. These platforms help people choose between the parties based on their own political and social views.

The Republican Party is liberty oriented and people-directed party that addresses the issues of every single citizen and ensures the solution to their problems grants personal freedom and security from foreign threats (GOP, 2009). In the questions of homeland security, the Republican Party stands on the position that the protection of the USA should be ensured by any means necessary (GOP, 2009). The anti-terrorism campaign and the struggle against the countries possessing weapons of mass destruction are the main ideas of the international policy of the Republican Party (GOP, 2009). Moreover, the Republican Party is concerned with intelligence development and stricter control of immigration in the USA (GOP, 2009). Finally, the rule of law is admitted to be the primary value of society. In the economy, the Republican Party promotes flexible taxes for Americans with different incomes levels, facilitating the development of small entrepreneurship and free and fair trade (GOP, 2009).

The ideals of the Democratic Party on the number of issues seem to be similar (The Democratic Party, 2009). For example, the Democratic Party views homeland security problems somewhat similarly in respect of war on terrorism and elimination of the weapons of mass destruction (The Democratic Party, 2009). However, the Democratic Party views the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as unnecessary ones and aims to end them as soon as possible (The Democratic Party, 2009). The sphere of social security and economy as presented by the Democratic Party differs much from the platform of the Republican Party (The Democratic Party, 2009). The democrats stress the importance of comprehensive and all-covering health care for the Americans and touch the questions of retirement and post-retirement security for the senior citizens (The Democratic Party, 2009). The Democrats also strive at solving the poverty and unemployment problems by creating new working places and providing the population with good educational opportunities (The Democratic Party, 2009).

Drawing from the data presented, I can state that when I have to register with a political party to be able to vote, I will register with the National Republican Party. I have two fundamental reasons for such a choice: the more fantastic and more comprehensive approach to the education development in America that the Republican Party offers. Another one is the position of the Republican Party on the homelands security and anti-terrorism campaign. Thus, education is one of the vital needs of every school graduate and potential college or university student. Understanding this, I pay much attention to the educational initiatives in the platforms of both parties considered in the paper, and the offers of the Republicans in regards to education seem to be more profound and fundamental. Stating that the youth is the basis for the country’s future development, the Republican Party is ready to grant more comprehensive educational access to all levels of society, including the poorest families.

As for homeland security, the position of the Republican Party is much more acceptable for me. The Republicans are firm in their commitment to fighting terrorism and are not afraid to take the strictest possible measures. The certainty in such vital issues as homeland security makes the voters feel safe and be sure to support the Republicans who what to do and are confident about both the ways they will ensure the homeland security and the outcomes those ways will lead to. This is also why I would not register with the Democratic Party; their platform pays little attention to educational issues, and homeland security policies are much milder, which is not a good quality for the security issues.

Based on these considerations, it is evident that the political system would be chaotic if no political parties were observed in society. The current situation with political parties allows the voters to see clear goals that they pursue and either agree or disagree with them. In the case of no parties, the number of plans offered will be enormous, making structuring the social life impossible. The passing of legislation will be complicated as it would be hard for separate politicians to agree on specific points. The primaries will take too much time because the number of candidates will amount to much more than two as it is now. In any case, a non-party system would complicate the voting campaigns. The exact elections procedure will be confused by the number of candidates and the variety of the values they stand for.
