Pittsburg Police Officer Meets With Community in Trust

The article entitled “Pittsburg police officer meets with the community in trust” describes the efforts of the police officers to mend relations with the Afro-American population of the neighborhood. The meeting is organized to acknowledge the wrong that has been done and is attended by police officers and Afro-American community members. The proposed technique to bridge the existing gap is “to listen to community concerns”, put back the past and form a future relationship based on trust and understanding (Bradbury, 2018, para. 10). The meeting serves to mark a new beginning and provides an opportunity for the police to rehabilitate themselves.

I agree with the proposed technique of listening to the community’s concerns and acting on them respectively. I believe it is the only way to build relations of trust with people whom the police wronged greatly. While earlier, the police had taken the initiative in their hands, arresting and shooting people for minor crimes, it seems it is high time to be humble and let the Afro-American population voice their concerns. Communication can be seen as a way of implementing certain relationships, where the success of resolving a conflict situation directly depends on the correct organization of communication. The technique of ‘active listening’ can be very effective in restoring relations with the community as it allows the police to deal with the events slowly and in detail. If the police can show the community that they really understand and sympathize with them, the conflict situation will be reduced. Thus, ‘active listening’ allows maintaining a positive emotional relationship with the Afro-American population. Moreover, since the police have an administrative duty to act in a conflict situation, it is wise to listen and take the time to make the right decisions.

Label tables and figures in the appendix as you would in the text of your manuscript, using the letter A before the number to clarify that the table or figure belongs to the appendix.
