UAE’s Role in Space Science and Technology Development

Introduction

UAE has been experiencing major technological changes due to the focus on this particular field. Technological development is not only beneficial in terms of scientific evolution and revenue but also a key component of the formation of international alliances and partnerships with countries with similar objectives. Moreover, investments in technology and space science, in particular, may lead to the establishment of strong international scientific groups in which individuals will cooperate, share experiences, and learn to improve the national approaches to development. Furthermore, the presence of competition can potentially facilitate a more effective strategy in regards to proficiency in a scientific and technological sense. The first preliminary research question that will be applied to examine the topic is “how does UAE establish its international relationship through technology and space science? This question will refer to the specific focuses in terms of investments and objectives when it comes to tech advances and space exploration and studies. Moreover, the question will help assess certain alliances and global organizations that the UAE operates in regarding the subject of the research. The second proposed research question is “what impact have technological and space science efforts in UAE had on its international relationships?”. This will be examined in regards to the effects of cooperation and competitiveness in relation to space science and technological development. The paper will do in-depth and assess the national implementations that ultimately establish international relationships.

Research Methodology and Conceptual Framework

In order to examine the research questions and formulate comprehensive conclusions on the topic, qualitative analytical research will be performed. Thus, literature, relevant information, and data will be examined, summarized, and illustrated in regard to the current technological and space science advancements in UAE, as well as the phenomenon in a global context. According to qualitative analytical study, the essential elements will be identified and pertinent literature will be evaluated. As a result, the methodology will allow for data to be conceptualized and the subject of the research to be addressed appropriately. Additionally, the qualitative information will enable a comprehensive summary of the subject from several angles. First, the aim to advance in technology and space science will be assessed. Furthermore, an international viewpoint will be used to analyze the goals and function of the UAE scientific community. In order to identify intricate processes that are related to the goal of joining space programs, scientific alliances, and other organizations with worldwide members, a qualitative study will be a useful technique. Furthermore, the conceptual framework will consist of a parallel between national and international objectives. The link between technological and space advantages and the UAE on the global arena is the process on which the conceptual framework will be based on.

Literature Review

Relevant literature initially exemplifies the reason why UAE has followed an agenda in regards to becoming more technologically advanced in an international sense. Researchers mention the collapse of oil prices as a motivator for increasing investments in other areas, including space science (Hvidt, 2020). Advances in the space sector have been made for over three decades. The literature illustrates that the national idea of development in this area has been successful and has allowed the UAE to be globally competitive in studies and scientific space explorations (Al Rashedi et al., 2020). Competition is a positive factor since it facilitates growth, yet when it comes to technology, collective growth is a more practical approach. This implies cooperation among different countries, information sharing, and building alliances and global organizations in which representatives of different countries can work hand in hand. One example of the UAE integrating an international platform is International Planetary Data Alliance (IPDA), an organization in which UAE is an active member (Stein et al., 2017). Based on the premises of the alliance, countries work together in terms of sharing information discovered recently, encouraging scientific cooperation, and healthy rivalry when it comes to space exploration. From a global perspective, data sharing is essential. According to researchers, countries participating in such initiatives are able to facilitate the participants in analyzing findings, coming to a consensus, and determining new approaches to existing problems (AlShamsi & Ajmal, 2018). Science and international relations go hand in hand, primarily due to the fact that international communities are not only designed to facilitate new collective discoveries but also encourage certain social agendas. An example is the Emirates Mars Mission, the project that has brought international attention to the UAE’s aim to improve the area of space science both nationally and internationally (el-Showk, 2020). Thus, both scientific and social relevance is created since international investors will support such initiatives, scientists from all over the world will be able to participate, and the global community will address the major effort put into the project.

Conclusion

The proposed methodology, conceptual framework, research questions, and table of contexts will facilitate a complex and objective overview of the topic of UAE’s international relations facilitated by space science and technological advancements. Moreover, the qualitative analysis based on relevant sources will allow for unbiased and objective data to be assessed in regard to the two research questions that are to be examined in the paper. The objective of linking national objectives when it comes to space science and technology to international relations, cooperation, and competition will be achieved through the examination of information on the topic and illustration of the benefits in regards to global participation.
