The Supreme Leader Within the Iranian Political System

Introduction

The role and powers of the Supreme Leader within the Iranian political system are significant. The Supreme Leader has played a large role in the moderating trend. His foreign policy and response to economic issues follow the ideologies of moderates. However, he still warns against the US; he allows regular contact between his foreign minister and the US Secretary of State, as well as other foreign politicians.

Discussion

Ayatollah Khomeini’s passing on June 3, 1989, signaled the end of an era for Iran and the cause of Islamic fundamentalism as a whole. He was one of the titans of these days. He was the leader of one of the most bizarre revolutions of the 20th century, which had a global influence (Hanania, 2022). Khomeini’s name and image continue to dominate public areas in Iran, from the Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran to Isfahan’s Naqsh-e Jahan Square, now known as Imam Khomeini Square, 30 years after his passing and 40 years after he successfully led the revolution (History.com Editors, 2018). Instead of reform and advancement in the economy, the revolution merely led to a lengthy conflict between Iran and Iraq that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of troops and civilians, which is active nowadays and a current topic for discussion. Current political leaders do not stop such confrontation, which resulted in additional economic suffering for the nation by increasing the number of sanctions imposed on it (Afary, 2019).

Conclusion

Nowadays, the promotion of Ayatollah Khomeini’s influence on the final Minister of Court under the Shah and Dr. Bakhtiar, Ali Gholi Ardalan, was liberated by the revolutionary courts for the first time. He was an ailing, elderly man who had served as such. The sources that were used are relevant to this topic as they tell about the life and impact of the death of the analyzed leader. They also tell how the death of the leader affected the judicial system today from the news.
