The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Vision in 10 Years

Description of the Agency

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is one of the law agencies with much familiarity and popularity across the world. It is a unit in the United States that investigates terrorism, cyber-attacks, and overseas adversaries, among other complex and dangerous cases. The agency is a threat and intelligent-driven organization, offering both law enforcement and intelligence activities. It is one of the principal arms of the United States department of justice.

Moreover, it is a full member of the United States intelligence community (Lynch, 2019). The FBI is tasked and responsible for investigating certain crimes they are assigned to and provides law enforcement to other agencies with cooperative services. Such include training, fingerprint identity, and laboratory examinations. As such, the organization is tasked with innumerable responsibilities, which is why it is one of the prominent organizations. The agency gathers, analyses, and shares intelligence that supports investigations and helps in understanding better ways of combating security threats that face the United States.

Demographic Details

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is popular for employing many individuals due to the scope of work. It has approximately 35,000 employers that include support staff such as language specialists, information technology specialists, intelligence analysts, and special agents (Lynch, 2019). The agency offers an inclusive and diverse workforce, which is one of its core organizational values. Besides, their mission is to ensure the American people are protected while the constitution of the United States is highly upheld.

Vision of Agency in Ten Years

Mission in Ten Years

In the next ten years, I would like to improve the vision of the FBI. Their mission stipulates protecting the US constitution and ensuring citizens are protected. However, the recent killings across the states prove that their mission has become obsolete and outdated (Lynch, 2019). For instance, black people’s killings have tremendously increased in most states. Thus, I would improve the mission and ensure it is inclusive regardless of an individual’s race.

Policing Style and Change in Nature of Crime

Regarding its style of policing, the FBI is one of the federal agencies with law enforcement responsibilities in the country and across the globe. I will maintain its current policing style and improve it by assigning duties to departments. Unlike the police service, the FBI has been ensuring the law is well enforced by working closely with other partners, such as the police. They ensure that serious security threats faced by the US have been addressed. Thus, in the next ten years, I would like to maintain this policy style as it will help combat attacks with the constant innovation of technology.

Fundamental Technology

The new technology is fundamental to crime reduction efforts. Currently, two complex technology crime prevention innovations have helped reduce the crime rate. They include improved street lights and closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV). Such tools have improved surveillance and fastened the investigation period during analysis. Moreover, GPS systems and robots have helped improve the crime rate. Thus, the new technology will reduce crime by advancing detection methods during field testing, having portable laps and genetic genealogy, and using artificial intelligence on other forensic works.

Societal and Cultural Shifts

The FBI will likely experience specific cultural shifts that will impact its future. For instance, the inclusion of LGBTQ individuals in the community has been one of the mandates the government has supported. Since neglecting such communities will sound like discrimination, this will be against the FBI’s mission of protecting US citizens. Thus, this cultural shift will impact the future of the FBI since most people would like to know whether the agency will be ready to help the LGBTQ community. As a police leader, I will ensure the agency is well-prepared culturally and structurally. By providing that, employees reconnect with the organization’s core values as we improve them slowly. First, conducting a cultural edit will improve the state of the agency. Secondly, employees will be involved in the process of redefining culture. Finally, I will create and share culture-rebuild plans throughout the organization.

Biggest Challenge

Cybercrime is one of the biggest challenges affecting the policing at the FBI. The FBI needs to train recruits to ensure they are tech-savvy and understand how fast technology changes (Lynch, 2019). Moreover, the agency needs to be flexible when adapting new technology systems to avoid security threats and other cyber-related crimes. One of the significant effects of cybercrime is the financial implication. By assuming its consequences now, cybercrime will impact the future of cybercrime immensely since resources would be limited to help tackle the situation. Moreover, the lack of a risk management plan would escalate the issue to enormous problems for the agency, the US, and its citizens.

Exiting Possibilities

The FBI has innumerable possibilities that a police leader can note concerning the future of policing and the organization. The exciting possibility is the agency has to integrate with the new technology. Innovation and invention have become core to any sector, and the FBI agency is one of them (Lynch, 2019). Incorporating various tools such as CCTVs, street lights, mobile portable laboratories, and genetic genealogy, and using artificial intelligence on other forensic works is exciting. In the next few years, the FBI has the most possibilities to ensure that discrimination and the country’s security are intact. As a police leader, I will ensure that these aspects regarding technology are well articulated and incorporated into the community.
