Definition of BRICS

Foreign ministers of these countries first met informally in 2006; subsequently, more formal annual summits began in 2009 (Library of Congress, n.d.). The last meeting was held in August 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa (Chuttel, 2023). Therefore, due to the trade and investment benefits associated with the engagement in BRICS, many countries seek participation.
