Healthcare Lessons for Democrats and Republicans

Both parties, Democrats and Republicans, should consider the history of healthcare reform and learn specific lessons from it. Affordable Care Act is healthcare reform, which stands for affordable health insurance, covering adults with an average income of less than 138% and decreasing healthcare costs through new medical care delivery methods (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.). The parties must focus on such main points as solving public health problems and ensuring substantial health insurance.

Considering the history, Democrats can learn that lower prices for drugs and coverage of preexisting conditions can help people with low income receive more affordable medical care. Another lesson for this party is that the public insurance option, which lies in ACA, can enhance private health insurance. Focusing on these aspects can help Democrats to achieve future goals in improving the U.S. healthcare system. There are also lessons to be learned for Republicans. First, the desire to repeal the ACA can lead to adverse health outcomes, a destructive impact on financial security, and a loss of coverage by millions of people. It is better to introduce modifications rather than repeal the whole ACA. The second lesson to be learned by Republicans is that modernizing the healthcare system may have positively striking consequences. The future goals in support of insurance purchase innovations and chronic patients’ hospitalization process alternatives will lead to strategic progress in the system.

Consequently, the lessons learned by both parties will improve healthcare reform in the case of rational decision-making. The future of the Affordable Care Act may have promising perspectives if the parties plan to work coherently and consider various peculiarities and contradictions of the Act. Democrats are more fans of the Affordable Care Act than Republicans, which may lead to inconsistency inside the Government and negatively impact the healthcare system.
