Republicans voted against a comprehensive pandemic bill signed by the President of the United States three months ago. However, they later stated that funding was needed but claimed that Bidenâs plan was too costly and insufficiently focused on the nationâs health and economic crisis. Public opinion polls show that Biden’s proposed aid package has been extremely successful among the population, and voting on it is poorly received by the population (The Hill, 2021). At the same time, in order to gain popularity among voters, the Republicans began to advertise some parts of the funding plan, which were previously rejected.
The confirmation that Republicans often act contradictorily and ignore public opinion can be seen in the recent stance of Senator Wicker. On the one hand, he voted against the support bill, but at the same time, he spoke favorably of the part of the plan that assists the restaurant business. He pointed out that businesses will be able to weather the catastrophic effects of the pandemic and emerge from the crisis only with the help of these funds. The Senator received a barrage of criticism for his remarks because he opposed the other main provisions of the law. Therefore, his words seemed strange to the audience because they were completely contrary to the previous position (The Hill, 2021). He only tried to take credit for someone else’s merits while remaining a person who votes against and does not listen to the needs of society. Moreover, Republicans also promoted health care funding but did not specify a mechanism for providing it. Thus, public opinion is in favor of finding out how politics manage their taxes and how they will be able to receive community funding.
