The newly elected 46th US president Joe Biden belongs to the Democratic party. The administration of Joe Biden, the president, and Kamala Harris, the vice president, is strongly supported by the progressives. Progressives emphasize the need for the provision of more social and economic equality. They also endorse social programs established by the state. The current paper argues that progressives will have an immense impact on the policies proclaimed by the Biden Administration.
On the official website of Biden and Harris, it is noted that Biden sees progressives as an essential assistant in “sweeping Donald Trump and his corrupt administration from office” (Biden Harris, n.d., para 1). Biden’s program for progressives includes such steps as an advancement of equality of LGBTQ+, the surmounting of the public health crisis, and strengthening of racial justice, to name but a few (Biden Harris, n.d.). Currently, the progressives loudly declare that they want to play a significant role in Biden’s administration. This assertion is illustrated by the fact that the progressives recently released the lists of candidates who could be accepted for the White House’s top positions.
It seems that it would be rather dangerous for Biden to ignore the requirements of the progressives because of the previously mentioned promises he gave to them. Any attempt to minimize their influence could be interpreted as a breach of his promises on the achievement of greater equality and mitigation of the consequences of economic and health care crises. Therefore, it might be suggested that if Biden fails to satisfy the will of the progressives and refuses to grant them power, then they will turn away from him. This, in turn, will weaken his position and political significance.
